Shalom friends,
In the UMJC, we have two overarching goals:
1) to see at least one thriving Messianic Jewish congregation in every significant Jewish community, and
2) to raise up a new, under-40 generation that is larger than our current over-40 generation. These goals in turn contribute to the even greater goal of welcoming Yeshua back into the midst of the Jewish people as Lord and Messiah (Matt. 23:29; Rom. 11:26).
In the UMJC, we not only pray for these goals, but we devote lots of effort toward them as well. One of these efforts is an internship program that places aspiring young Messianic Jewish leaders in a successful Messianic congregation, where they become an integral part of its life and testimony. The intern is involved in all areas of ministry, including children's education, outreach, music and liturgical service, and adult education. He or she may also be given the opportunity to initiate new ministry, such as campus outreach, or youth groups.
The UMJC also provides for work-study grants through our Hadrachah Program, which helps provide part-time work in a local Messianic congregation for college students. We included a report on the Hadrachah program in our winter 2007 update (click here). Now, here's a report from Joshua Brumbach (pictured above), who is serving as a full-time intern with our member congregation, Beth Emunah, in Southern California:
Internships can lead to longer-term service as a congregational leader or associate, or as a congregational planter. The UMJC grant is matched by the local congregation in which the intern serves. Together, we are investing not just in these talented young people, but in the future of the whole movement for Yeshua among the Jewish people. Right now, we need partners to invest in this exciting ministry with us, in finances and prayer. Our Internship Fund was launched several years ago with some major donations along with numerous smaller donations. Now, it needs to be replenished through major donations as well as lots of more modest ones to support the program past 2007. Please pray about being part of this innovative and effective program; your investment in the internship fund will bear fruit far into the future.
