The 2007 annual UMJC International Conference, "Tikkun Olam: Restoring the World in Messiah," is scheduled for July 25-28 in Chicago. The phrase Tikkun Olam, used in various ways throughout the Jewish world, means to repair or restore our world in cooperation with its Creator. The ultimate Tikkun Olam arrives with the return of Messiah and "the times of restoration of all things" (Acts 3:21), but we have a foretaste today, as we help rebuild a remnant for Messiah within the house of Israel, engage in tzedakah and outreach in the name of Yeshua, and support the restoration of Jewish sovereignty in the land of Israel. Our conference will explore the big picture of Tikkun Olam and hands-on applications such as these, in our own lives and communities. The conference will follow the highly successful track format introduced at the 2006 conference in Portsmouth, VA. For 2007, we will add two tracks designed for general attendees-one will feature Scripture study on the Tikkun Olam theme, and the other will focus on Israel. Three other tracks will be offered for those looking for a congregational development emphasis. One of the development tracks will launch a new UMJC licensure program (see page 2). "Principles of synagogue growth and development" is designed for all who desire to see our synagogues grow and flourish, as well as leaders seeking licensure. Taught jointly by veteran Messianic leaders Rich Nichol and Howard Silverman, the course will cover topics such as:
The course begins as a track within the general conference, open to all, and continues for an extra day beyond the conference schedule for those seeking licensure. Other development tracks will cover education and outreach. Whether you come as a general participant or for the congregational development emphasis, you will go away inspired and equipped to be part of Tikkun Olam, the adventure of restoring the world in Messiah. |
