Scripture instructs the Israelites to count seven weeks, from the offering of first fruits during Passover, until Shavuot, the festival of Weeks. This 49-day period is a time of spiritual anticipation and prayer, called sefirat ha-omer, or counting the omer, the sheaf of the wave offering (based on Leviticus 23:15-17). In the past few years, UMJC congregational members and supporters have renewed the tradition of counting the omer, as we join in 49 days of unified prayer. The prayer campaign concludes with an offering for Shavuot, the holiday celebrating God's gift of the Torah to the people of Israel.

Over
the last few years, the UMJC has worked hard to foster excitement among the
young adults in our movement. The need to raise up a new generation of leaders
is one of the most important initiatives of the UMJC. Perhaps the most
effective way to foster excitement and interest is to connect young people to
other young people in their own region. Kabbetz HaEsrim is serving this need!
March 16-18 in Baltimore, MD, will be a time of fellowship, study, worship, and
prayer for Messianic believers aged 18-30 on the East Coast. It will be the
latest incarnation of Kabbetz HaEsrim gatherings, as three past successful
events were held in Beverly Hills, CA, Virginia Beach, VA, and Baltimore.
The theme of the conference is "Empowered Leaders,"
and will focus on honing leadership skills both inside and outside of the
synagogue setting. The goal is to empower twenties to impact the world for
Messiah! If you are a young adult (or know any young adults who may be
interested in this event) please go to www.umjc.org/kabbetz.
Kabbetz HaEsrim West is coming this fall, and the
first Kabbetz HaEsrim Midwest is on its way for early 2008. Please spread the
word, and keep the UMJC 20s in prayer, as these important events approach.

We are
pleased to announce two exciting events for younger Messianic Jewish adults
coming soon:
Third Annual Young Messianic
Jewish Leaders Shabbaton
Younger adults (ages 18 to 35)
from throughout the Messianic Jewish community will gather to worship, pray,
study, and share Shabbat together. This event provides a forum for them to
build relationships, be spiritually encouraged, and learn from one another. The
next YLS will be held on June 8-9, 2007, in Beverly Hills, CA, just before the
Young Messianic Jewish Scholars Conference. Any young adult who is interested
in the future of the Messianic Judaism is welcome at this event.
Sixth Annual Young Messianic Jewish Scholars Conference
Each year since 2002, young
scholars have gathered for an annual conference in which they present and
respond to one another's work. The purpose of YMJSC is to facilitate
relationship building among young scholars as well as to give them a voice in
shaping the future of the Messianic Jewish community. The next YMJSC will be
held June 10-12, 2007, in Beverly Hills, CA. All younger adults (ages 18 to 35)
with an interest in Messianic Jewish scholarship (regardless of academic
background) are welcome to attend.

Are you the missing piece of the puzzle?
The 2007 conference theme, "Tikkun
Olam: Restoring the World in Messiah," reflects the biblical truth that our
world won't be complete until Messiah returns. In the meantime, we all have a
part to play in restoring the world; each one of us has a part in reassembling
the puzzle.
So, bring your piece of
the puzzle to Chicago this summer, July 25-28, where we will together explore
the meaning of Tikkun Olam and how to make it a reality in our lives and
communities.
